Self-Love: Having The Courage to Heal wounds
by Yukio Phillips
Paths to Recovery, Al-Anon's Step's Traditions, and Concepts is a powerful book that helps families and friends of alcoholics walk through the 12 steps of Recovery while supplying strength, encouragement, and hope.
This book is for everyone. Whether you have involvement with a love one who is an addict or not, each story is filled with truth that you can relate to.
We are all in recovery from traumatic experiences in our lives.
Recovery from an abusive marriage is how I found Alanon and this wonderful book and why I am sharing my review with you today.
Each chapter gives detail of each step of recovery along with stories of survivors who put them to practice. The story that each survivor shares, is more than a surface fly- by- night tale. It's honest, courageous, and real.
At the end of each chapter is a list of questions for reflection. A time where the reader can look within and reveal to themselves truth that may have otherwise been hidden.
Step Four is titled ''Made a Searching and Fearless Moral Inventory of Ourselves.'' This step challenges you to take a spiritual inventory of yourself- both of positive and negative characteristics. After taking an honest inventory, the next step is to take action on the characteristics that are least desirable.
Step four is all about taking off our social masks and digging deep to find and love our authentic self. How many masks do you wear? Masks can keep you away from knowing who you really are.
Aren't you tired of having to figure out what masks to wear to please others?
If you take courage to look at yourself, you may admit that we wear masks to hide from ourselves as well.
Why do we avoid truth?
Sometimes the best medicine will taste the worst. For example, think of the taste of Cod-liver oil. It has great uses and benefits for the body, but it tastes yucky! If cod-liver oil for a certain illness is what the body needs, doesn't the benefit outweigh the risks?
Truth is the cod-liver oil for authentic happiness.
Today, I ask you to consider taking a moral fearless inventory of yourself. Where is it in your life that you are not living up to the God potential within you.
Since you are reading this article, I already know that your higher self, the spirit that God put in you, wants something different for your life.
Is there something tugging inside of you wanting more, but every time you reach up to grab at your goal, it's too far beyond reach?
You're not alone. I've been there.
Truth exposes false beliefs that frees you from misery. Once you see yourself as powerful and wonderful as God sees you, the life you crave to live will be yours. Have courage and be bold because you are worthy!
